Planning out your timeline for your wedding day can be super tricky; there are so many moving parts, tons of friends and family involved, and you want to make sure all your vendors are on the same page.
After photographing hundreds of weddings over the years, there is one thing that I have noticed that can throw off a timeline faster than (insert witty comment here because I can’t think of a good one this morning 😂), and that is when a bride decides to be the last one to get hair and makeup done on her wedding day.
I understand why you may be thinking about having the freshest makeup before pictures start, but honestly, a talented makeup artist is going to ensure your makeup lasts all day long, so starting an hour earlier isn’t going to make any difference at all!
It is very easy for hair and makeup to run long on a wedding day. It just happens; someone may show up late, hair just doesn’t want to stay curled just right, or makeup smudges before it gets set. – It happens all the time. It’s not a huge problem, we will get it all figured out, but it relieves so much stress if your hair and makeup artists aren’t rushing on your final look to make up for time lost.
This is especially true if you are having a first look- because we can ALWAYS do a first look without a bridesmaid, but NEVER without a bride.
So my advice for brides is don’t be last to get your wedding makeup done on your wedding day; go first or somewhere in the middle. If you get done super early – even before I get there don’t worry, we can stage makeup photos and hair photos.
I actually don’t tend to photograph the beginning stages of hair and makeup anyway because they aren’t very flattering photos, in all honesty. The best hair and makeup photos on a wedding day are the final touches and, more often than not, are actually staged photos!
Jump in the chair early, and then kick back with a mimosa and enjoy your wedding morning!
