While I’ve talked before about what gear I take with me to a wedding, today I’m sharing my hands-down favorite lens of all time! The 85mm 1.4. I got this lens when I was photographing high school seniors and really only used it for seniors for a while. As I would go through and edit, I just wasn’t loving the lack of depth I was having in my 50mm and my 35mm on wedding days. I decided to switch things up and actually use my 85 during weddings and instantly fell in love!
I had to adjust my shooting distance quite a bit and that was hard right away but was so worth the creamy bokeh that comes with the 85mm. I use this lens for my sunset photos with brides and grooms now 100% of the time! It’s also pretty versatile when shooting reception details! If you haven’t tried the 85mm on a wedding day I definitely suggest renting one for your next wedding or shoot!
I have rented the Nikon version, but found the Sigma to be very comparable especially at the price point! Maybe one day I will step up to the Nikon or Sigma Art, but for now, the Sigma is what I’ll be rocking!
