90% of the weddings I photograph are not at wedding venues. They are at churches, outdoor or on a family farm. I absolutely love that every wedding is entirely different. It always keeps me on my toes!
There is one part of the day that I was struggling with, and that was bridal details. The reasons my brides choose locations often were for the grand view of at the ceremony or reception space. The bridal suite was usually not anything special and would often be in dark rooms with bold colors.
I put together a wedding styling kit to photograph bridal details anywhere! Today I’m sharing what I’ve included in my styling kit!
The first thing I included was a white canvas. Admittedly I try to not use this if I can, but it provides a clean white background in a pinch or can be used as a reflector if needed!
The next thing I have is a wooden hanger. Being able to toss that plastic hanger the dress comes with for a simple wood hanger instantly makes dress photos look more high end.
After that, I invested in a set of Mrs. Box in neutral colors. I love using these, and many of my brides have actually started purchasing their own to match their wedding colors. – show what you want to shoot!
Next, I added some ribbons. My first stop was at actually to the floral shop in town where I purchased about a foot and a half of several different colored ribbons. This actually was a pretty genuineness idea since many of my brides were getting flowers from this flower shop, and more times then not I had the exact color of ribbon the bride’s bouquet was tied with!
I also headed to Etsy to get a few higher-end ribbons on spools which I’m loving!
Next, I added stamps. I got my set off amazon, but Etsy also has a few great looking sets.
The last things I’ve added were antique plates. These were some I found in our attic after Justin’s grandma moved out.
I keep all of it packed in a waterproof plastic tote. The hanger and canvas don’t fit, so those go separate. Honestly, it’s not the most convenient to lug all of it into a wedding, but it has been worth it to deliver more consistent and high-end images to my brides.
If I were to travel on a plane, I would probably only take the ring boxes and a spool of ribbon.
There you have it! Have you ever put together a wedding detail styling kit? If so, what did you include?
