I absolutely love Instagram Highlights! I totally switched from snapchat to insta stories as soon as they came out! I love that you can save your highlights to your profile! This also means you get more spots to share your creativity! I just updated my insta story highlight cover photos and got a slew of DM’s about where I got them, or how I made them! I wanted to go ahead a create a quick post on how to make Instagram highlight cover images super easy, and how you can update them on the fly! I’m going to share two different kinds. My old ones, and my new updated ones!

Choose a style

I am starting to elevate my branding and have recently updated colors. My Instagram highlight cover images are just another spot I can use these new branding colors. I’m transitioning from an editorial magazine type brand to a more feminine brand. This is what my first highlight covers looked like.

Icon Instagarm Highlight Covers

I started out by searching Creative Market for Instagram Icons. There are so many great packs out there! For this you want to be sure to pick a pack that includes PNG files with a transparent background! This is the one I ended up going with. I would also suggest picking ones that are the color you want. You can change them in PS if you need to but its a lot more work!

Start Designing

If your familiar with photoshop you can probably handle it from here, but if you are looking for an easy way to do this on the fly later on on your phone stick around! I used Canva to create these so I can make more later from just about anywhere on my phone!

You will want to start a new document inside Canva. You can search for Instagram Stories template or use the detentions 1080×1920 px. Now you will want to choose what color of backgrounds you want for your Instagram highlight covers. I’m using a hue of blueish greys. you can certainly choose just one color!

Double click on the background of your file and then click on the color swatch in the upper left hand corner and choose the color you want, you can also paste the Hex code for your branding colors to get them exact!

Next you are going to upload the files you found on Creative Market. In Canva if you have the free version you will not be able to add folders, but it still works just fine! I have the paid version so I do have them saved into a folder to make things easier to navigate! Now you just drag and drop your png files on to the background!

Then you can add a new page and create all the instagram highlight cover photos you need!

Once you have them all created you can just download them to your computer, and then save them to dropbox. Then just open Dropbox on your phone and save the images to your camera roll and use them on Instagram!

Update on the fly!

Now that you have all your icons saved to your Canva account you can use the phone app and switch out icons as you need them!
