A few of my favorite things

As a wedding photographer, having a solid shot list is important to ensure you capture all the special moments of the day. However, creating a shot list can be overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure what to include. In this blog post, I’ll provide you with some dos and don’ts for creating a shot list that will help you capture beautiful and timeless photos of the wedding day. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, these tips will ensure that you don’t miss any important shots and that your clients are thrilled with the final product.

Dos:

  1. Meet with the couple before the wedding to discuss their must-have shots. Make a list of all the shots they want, including group shots with family and friends.
  2. Use a template as a starting point for your shot list. Many free online templates can help you organize your thoughts and ensure you don’t forget anything.
  3. Include the time and location of each shot on your list. This will help you plan your time on the wedding day and ensure you have everything you need to capture the perfect shot.
  4. Ask the couple if they have any special requests, such as shots with a specific background or lighting. This will help you tailor your shot list to their preferences.
  5. Get creative with your shots. Don’t be afraid to try new angles, lighting, and poses to make each shot unique and special.

Don’ts:

  1. Don’t rely solely on your shot list. Be flexible and ready to capture candid moments and spontaneous shots.
  2. Don’t take shots that are irrelevant to the wedding day. Focus on capturing the essence of the day, including the couple, their families, and the celebration.
  3. Don’t forget to consider the time of day and the lighting conditions. Ensure you have the right equipment and knowledge to capture the best shots in any lighting situation.
  4. Don’t forget to consider the flow of the day when planning your shots. Make sure you have enough time for each shot and that they flow naturally from one to the next.
  5. Don’t forget to have fun! Weddings are joyful occasions, and your positive energy will help your clients feel relaxed and confident in your abilities.

By following these dos and don’ts, you can create a comprehensive shot list that will help you capture all the special moments of your client’s wedding day.
