A few of my favorite things

Today, we are diving into the fifth stage of my signature coaching method, The Next Brave Step Blueprint. This isn’t just a set of ideas or theories; it’s a proven system that has worked for hundreds of people around the world. Whether you’re feeling stuck in a job, struggling with your finances, wanting better health, or seeking a more fulfilling relationship, this blueprint is designed to guide you through your transformational journey step by step.

Understanding The Next Brave Step Blueprint

The Next Brave Step Blueprint is a comprehensive, actionable plan that helps you navigate significant life changes. It’s broken down into six key stages:

  1. The Reckoning: Recognizing the need for change and confronting the reality of your current situation.
  2. Evaluation: Assessing where you are, what’s working, and what’s not working.
  3. Strategy: Developing a clear and actionable plan to achieve your goals.
  4. Massive Action: Implementing your plan with bold, decisive actions.
  5. Course Correct: Adjusting your strategy as needed to stay on track.
  6. Receive and Repeat: Embracing your achievements and preparing for continued growth.

In today’s episode, we will focus on the fifth stage: Course Correcting.

The Importance of Course Correcting

Course correcting is about making necessary adjustments to your strategy as you work towards your goals. It’s crucial to understand that course correcting is normal and essential in your journey. It ensures you stay on track and continue progressing towards your goals.

Course Correcting is Not a Sign of Failure

Imagine you’re on a flight from New York to Los Angeles. Planes are off course about 90% of the time due to factors like wind and turbulence. However, through continuous adjustments and corrections, the plane reaches its final destination safely. The same principle applies to our personal goals. We will encounter obstacles and challenges that steer us off course. Regular adjustments and corrections are essential to staying aligned with our goals and reaching our destination.

How to Effectively Course Correct

Regular evaluation and adjustments are critical for staying on track. Here are some practical ways to effectively course correct:

Daily and Monthly Goal Reviews

Daily Reviews:

  • Write down your goals multiple times a day to reinforce your commitment.
  • Reflect on your daily progress and make necessary adjustments.

Monthly Journaling:

  • At the end of each month, journal about your progress, successes, and areas for improvement.
  • Make any necessary adjustments based on your reflections.

Benefits of Regular Reflection

Taking time to reflect on your achievements and challenges allows for deeper self-awareness and understanding. Regular journaling keeps a record of your progress and helps identify trends over time. It also boosts motivation and morale by acknowledging successes and expressing gratitude.

Effective Monthly Journaling

Here are some questions to jumpstart your monthly journaling:

Reflecting on Progress:

  • What goals did you achieve this month?
  • What steps did you take towards larger goals?
  • How did your actions align with your plan?

Expressing Gratitude:

  • What are you grateful for this month?
  • Who or what contributed to your progress?
  • How can you show appreciation for these contributions?

Celebrating Success:

  • What were your biggest wins this month?
  • How did you celebrate these successes?
  • How did these successes bring you closer to your ultimate goal?

Acknowledging Challenges:

  • What obstacles did you encounter?
  • How did you address these challenges?
  • What lessons did you learn from these experiences?

Outlining Adjustments:

  • What areas need improvement?
  • What strategies can you adjust or change?
  • What new actions or plans will you implement next month?

Quarterly Assessments

Quarterly assessments help you take inventory and ensure your goals are still in line with where you want to go. Three months can bring significant changes, and reassessing quarterly helps maintain momentum towards your goals.

Benefits of Quarterly Assessments

  • Ensure your goals are still meaningful and align with your long-term vision.
  • Assess your progress and identify areas needing improvement.
  • Make informed decisions on strategies and possibly choose new routes towards your goals.

How to Conduct a Quarterly Reassessment

  1. Set Aside Time:
    • Dedicate a specific time each quarter for reassessment.
    • Treat it as an important meeting with yourself for reflection and planning.
  2. Evaluate Goals:
    • Review the goals you set at the beginning of the quarter.
    • Ensure they are still relevant and important to you.
  3. Assess Progress:
    • Evaluate the progress made over the past three months.
    • Use measurable criteria to assess achievements.
  4. Reflect on Challenges:
    • Identify obstacles and challenges faced.
    • Consider internal factors (motivation, skill) and external factors (market conditions, unexpected events).
  5. Adjust Strategies:
    • Based on your progress and challenges, adjust your strategies as needed.
    • Establish new milestones for the next quarter.
  6. Create an Action Plan:
    • Align steps needed to achieve new milestones.
    • Assign deadlines and responsibilities to ensure accountability.

Honest Self-Assessment

Be truthful and honest with yourself about your progress and the effectiveness of your strategies. An honest self-assessment is key to making meaningful adjustments.

Seek Feedback

Consider getting feedback from trusted sources such as mentors, colleagues, or friends to gain different perspectives on your progress and strategies.

Be Flexible

Be open-minded to making significant changes if necessary. Sometimes achieving your goals requires a new approach and a shift in priorities.

Celebrate Achievements

Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognizing progress helps stay motivated and focused.

Additional Tools for Course Correcting

Feedback Loop

A feedback loop is essential for correcting courses. Gather feedback from trusted sources to gain valuable insights and perspectives you might not have seen. This feedback helps adjust your strategy and ensures alignment with your goals.

Steps to Effectively Use a Feedback Loop

  1. Identify Trusted Sources:
    • Choose individuals who understand your goals and have your best interests at heart.
    • This can be a mentor, coach, colleague, or a supportive friend or family member.
  2. Ask Specific Questions:
    • Be specific about what feedback you need.
    • For example, ask about the effectiveness of a strategy or quality of work.
  3. Listen Actively:
    • Be open to receiving feedback without becoming defensive.
    • Listen carefully to what is being said and consider the points raised.
  4. Reflect on Feedback:
    • Take time to reflect on the feedback received.
    • Consider how it aligns with your goals and how it can help you improve.
    • Identify actionable steps based on the feedback.
  5. Implement Changes:
    • Use the feedback to make necessary adjustments.
    • This might involve tweaking your approach, changing tactics, or reevaluating your goals.
  6. Follow Up:
    • After making adjustments, follow up with your feedback sources to let them know how you’ve implemented their suggestions.
    • Seek additional feedback to create a continuous loop for improvement and refinement.

By integrating a feedback loop into your course correcting process, you ensure you are making informed decisions that keep you on track towards achieving your goals.

Conclusion

Today we explored the importance of course correcting, practical methods for doing so, and tools available to help you stay on track. Regular evaluation and adjustments are critical in achieving your goals. Embrace the process of course correcting as a vital part of your journey. Each adjustment brings you closer to your desired outcome. Just like a plane constantly readjusts to stay on course, stay committed to tracking those brave steps forward.

In our next episode, we will discuss the final stage, the Receiving and Repeating Stage, where we celebrate successes and plan for continued growth. I’m excited for you to tune into that one!
