A few of my favorite things

As the new year approaches, it’s time to reflect, evaluate, and prepare for an incredible 2025. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting, creating a thoughtful and intentional plan can set you up for success. In this guide, we’ll walk through proven steps to review your past year, set actionable goals, and align your business with your personal and professional aspirations.

But first, don’t forget to download your free 2025 printable wall calendar with quarterly breakdowns to map out your year. It’s available in the show notes below—your perfect companion for this planning process.

Step 1: Reflect on 2024—Celebrate Wins and Learn from Challenges

Before diving into planning for 2025, take time to review the past year. Reflecting on what worked and what didn’t helps you move forward with clarity and purpose.

Celebrate Your Wins

  • Ask yourself: What are the highlights of 2024? What am I most proud of?
  • Examples might include:
    • Growing your revenue or email list.
    • Launching a new product or service.
    • Expanding your social media reach.

For instance, my email list grew by 36% in 2024, and my podcast downloads tripled! Taking a moment to celebrate these milestones helped me acknowledge my hard work and gain momentum for the next year.

Evaluate What Didn’t Work

  • Identify what didn’t go as planned and why.
  • Example: In 2024, I launched a project too quickly without proper preparation. The experience taught me the importance of sticking to a well-thought-out plan.

Use data to guide your decisions. Analyze your metrics—whether it’s revenue, engagement rates, or product performance—and identify areas for improvement.

Step 2: Start Planning—When and How

The best time to plan is in Q4 of the current year. This gives you ample time to reflect, strategize, and hit the ground running in January.

It’s Never Too Late to Start

If it’s already January or February, don’t worry. You can set goals any time of the year. There’s nothing magical about January 1st—it’s more important to begin than to wait for the perfect time.

Step 3: Analyze Key Metrics

Tracking your numbers is essential to understanding your business health. Here are the top metrics to monitor:

  • Revenue and Profit Margins: Use a simple Google Sheet to track income and expenses, calculating your net profit.
  • Email List Growth: Log monthly subscriber counts to identify growth trends.
  • Social Media Engagement: Focus on platforms that matter most to your audience. Tools like Planoly and Later provide built-in analytics to refine your strategy.

Once you’ve reviewed your data, ask yourself:

  • What’s one metric I want to improve in 2025?
  • For example, if your Instagram engagement is low, experiment with posting times or new content formats.

Step 4: Prioritize Emotional Well-Being

Entrepreneurship is as much about mental and emotional resilience as it is about financial success.

Set Boundaries

  • Establish work hours or days and stick to them.
  • Schedule rest and relaxation to recharge.

For example, I prioritize a weekly date night with my fiancé. We plan it every week, no matter how busy we are, to ensure we stay connected.

Practice Mindfulness

  • Incorporate mindfulness or meditation into your routine. A simple guided meditation each morning has transformed my focus and energy levels.

Remember, your emotional well-being directly impacts your productivity and decision-making.

Step 5: Set Realistic and Flexible Goals

Use the SMART Goal Framework

  • Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve.
  • Measurable: Track your progress.
  • Achievable: Set realistic targets.
  • Relevant: Align goals with your broader vision.
  • Time-Bound: Assign deadlines.

Examples:

  • Gain 1,250 email subscribers by the end of Q1 by launching a free checklist.
  • Increase Instagram engagement by 10% by posting three Reels weekly.
  • Dedicate two hours per week to learning a new tool like Canva.

Break Goals into Quarterly Milestones

Divide your annual goals into smaller, manageable steps. For example:

  • Annual Goal: Increase revenue by 20%.
  • Q1 Goal: Implement a new marketing strategy and evaluate its performance.

This approach allows you to adjust your plan quarterly, ensuring you stay on track.

Step 6: Balance Work and Life

True productivity comes from balance. Start your yearly planning by blocking off family commitments like vacations and birthdays. Then schedule business launches and self-care activities around those milestones.

Additional Tips for Balance

  1. Schedule Downtime: Unplug from social media or plan regular getaways.
  2. Delegate Tasks: Outsource tasks like accounting or graphic design to free up your energy.
  3. Set Boundaries: Protect your time by learning to say no to activities that don’t align with your goals.

For instance, I recently deleted TikTok from my phone. It was a tough decision but has freed up so much mental energy—and my house is suddenly much cleaner!

2025: Your Year to Shine

Business planning isn’t just about crunching numbers; it’s about designing a life and business that align with your values and dreams.

  • Reflect on what matters most to you.
  • Create space for growth and flexibility.
  • Keep your goals visible with tools like the free 2025 printable wall calendar.

When you approach your goals with intentionality and balance, you set yourself up for success without burnout. You’ve got this!
